Quality is of utmost importance in this millennia. Quality over quantity is the motto of all the industries and producers. Thus ensuring the quality and specified standards for the products manufactured are significant. Team effort makes the dream project a reality. Quality assurance requires ensuring that the project being taken up is regularly and periodically checked for quality. For testing any project – hardware or software first requirement is a good team of professionals. The project leader or project manager is the person usually deciding the test plan. The Test Plan Template is a sophisticated and high level document emphasizing the requirements, methodology and end result of a software or hardware testing.
Test Plan Template
The test plan details what is to be tested, how is it to be tested, who is to test it, what are the conditions required for the testing, what is the scope of the test and so on. That is the reason why a test plan is of apex importance. For a testing to be successful a highly efficient test plan should be present. The test plan contains information regarding the intervals at which the tests are to be performed, the conditions required for the testing, the environmental factors affecting the testing and so on. The effectiveness of the testing is highly dependent on an efficient test plan. The test plan is not always revised and updated, but if a new strategy or alteration is to be introduced, then the test plan needs to be updated accordingly to meet the demands of the new testing standards. Test plan is very similar to test strategy, in fact both test strategy and test plan go hand in hand. Both test plan and test strategy are derived from the Software Requirement Specification assigned and specified by the team leader or test manager. An ideal test plan contains certain essential items and requirements the significant ones being:

ID – Every test plan requires a specific test ID made of numbers, names or both that states the test plan.
Environment – Each test plan requires a unique test environment that provides the optimal test results like the OS required, hardware and tools.

Test type – The type of test must be explained and executed here. Different tests like system testing, integration testing, interface testing and so on can be employed depending on the test requirements.
Introduction – A brief introduction of the testing is given so as to enable ease to the newcomers. This allows people to be more familiar with how things are done and executed.
The test plan also contains the details of all the testers included in the particular test and also contains reference cycle numbers so when a test fails or is unable to process the previous cycles of testing is referred and problem resolved.
Test status – The status of the test must be stated under this with clear-cut reasons concerning the same. A test can be a success/pass, failure/fail, or not been tested.
Specifics to be tested – The tester should be definite about the features that he should test and about the features that he is not required to test for that particular testing.
Start and Stop criteria – The tester should know when a test needs to start and when to stop the particular testing. These criteria defines that. The test strategy sets the standards for the same.
